ONE OF A KIND SHOW SPRING 2023
I am so so excited to announce that I will be participating in my first ever One of a Kind Show!
This iconic event is home to so many amazing artists and collectors alike.
From OOAK :
“Since 1975, our roots have been deeply connected to the culture of craft. We have participated in its
growth, and we are excited to witness its evolution. For us, what drives One Of A Kind forward is the core belief that craft can enrich our lives with diverse context and perspectives. With this, we envision One Of A Kind not only as a marketplace, but also a town square, a meeting place where people come together to give craft the commanding attention it deserves”

BUT I STILL HOPE YOU SEE THIS (DesignTO)
‘BUT I STILL HOPE YOU SEE THIS’ is a window installation by textile book artist Olivia Mae Sinclair. ‘BUT I STILL HOPE YOU SEE THIS’ is about you. You know exactly who you are. There should be no doubt in your mind that this is for you.
Olivia uses “sloppy craft” as her methodology. Sloppy Craft has become a way for her to express traumatic memory and heal by making. The exhibition features quilted screen-printed linen scraps, sourced primarily from the artist’s studio. The scraps are an archive of images; intimate moments, poetry, and text. All the work is based on the artist’s experience with love, lust, trauma and regret.
Textiles Workshop - Beginner Screen Printing
Very excited to be hosting this workshop at Hamilton Craft Studio!
“Learn how we make stencils and screens for printing on paper and fabric. Students will work with our samples and create their own works to print on paper and fabric.
Workshops are an opportunity to get in the textile studio and learn something new. Students will gain hands-on experience from artists and professional makers to learn techniques for surface design, pattern making and related skills.
One session of in studio learning, led by a professional craftsperson, held in the textile studio / program room. All materials are provided. Feel free to bring additional fabric / ink and stay to do more printing during our member hours following the workshop.’

LAYERS - SOLO SHOW
LAYERS is a self-referential solo exhibit that contemplates the relationship between traumatic memory and the physical body. Inspired by The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk, artist Olivia Mae Sinclair interprets the inner body and intrusive thoughts through textiles prints and book sculptures.
All of the x-ray images are of the artist's body.
"Normally, I use archive images of intimate moments in my work. However, the concept of LAYERS was born after having a dental scan with all my facial piercings visible. I want to show everyone the inside of my body.
Tracking the x-rays took many months and countless phone calls to doctors' offices. I was shocked at how difficult it was to obtain all the records and images, and many were erased and unable to get back..."
Olivia considers the implications of inside and outside. Within privacy, vulnerability, layers of the body, layers of textiles, and layers of meanings.

TORN
‘TORN’ is a self-referential project that discusses personal struggle through material exploration. Using screen-printed linen, trauma-based artist Olivia Mae Sinclair shares intimate images and text about her relationship with herself others. While the installation is auto-biopic, Olivia hopes others will feel empowered to share their own story or know they are not alone by sharing her trauma.
“I believe that even if my work doesn’t create “giant waves” or even “small ripples”, I know that somewhere out there, someone must relate to my books. Through re-telling of narratives, I am assured that thoughts and memories in my head have been transferred through my arms, down my fingers, and into the fabric. Once my thoughts have been re-processed through language, they have no longer have a hold over me.”
Olivia uses “Sloppy Craft” as her methodology. Sloppy Craft has become a way for her to express traumatic memory and heal by making. The decline of mental health and well-being is mirrored through material and concept.
“My work allows me to process agony and take a stand against intrusive thoughts. Making, sewing and collaging is a (mostly) soundless protest against the violence that replays in my mind.”
